After seeing a couple of excerpts from this book on Amazon, and references to it by a friend with a legal practice, I purchased this book. I worked for the police for a few years to put myself through school, and have come across a few bits of legal humor first hand.The book took *much* longer to arrive than expected, arriving about two weeks later than the rest of my order. No worries, I figured this must be a book very much in demand. Then it arrived, and I eagerly cracked it, looking for little gems of legalese to brighten my day.Sadly, the funny bits were few and far between. The book reads like a lawyer wrote it (which he did) to impress judges and other lawyers. Several times the author includes latin or legal terms without explanation. A small glossary might have helped here, instead of resorting to a dictionary to understand. Some of the excerpts might have benefited from some background information. Several items were a page or longer, and utterly wearying to search for the humor within, where there was any.It's enjoyable enough of a read, and certainly not a horrible book, either in terms of the writing or the subject matter. At the same time, it, and the reading experience, would have been vastly improved by a little more editing, and a bit of clarification for the lay reader.Overall, not bad, but very slow in a few spots.
I purchased this book on Kindle because I had read very funny excerpts on Facebook. The book does include some funny bits. However, the horrendous formatting overshadowed the book's merits. Many hopefully humorous anecdotes were ruined by the fact that the punch lines and often other portions of the dialogue were missing from my screen. Perhaps these problems were particular to the Kindle formatting and were complicated by formatting upgrades in newer Kindle equipment. If this book is not readable on older Kindles, the sales descriptions should note that fact. In addition, if this author paid a copy editor, he should have his money refunded. The errors in spelling and grammar were inexcusable. Both the author and his readers are being shortchanged.
It is amazing to me that with the several reviews noting that the electronic (Kindle) version of this book is incompatible with Kindle (numerous pages or line are cutoff or missing) that Amazon is still selling this edition. But I guess that no one at Amazon ever reads these reviews or does anything about them.The content of the book is, as at least one other reviewer has noted, not uniformly (or nearly) as funny as the excerpts, but the book would still be worth its price if it were readable. The Kindle edition is not readable.
Let's just say that this is one of those books that keeps me laughing. Sometimes I shake my head at the stupidity of humanity, so to see such ridiculousness happen in what should be a serious situation kind of makes me question my sanity. Still, this book is a definite laugh, no more different that watching Funniest Home Videos.
If you need a good laugh, this is the book for you. I was laughing so hard I was crying and these days, we all need a good laugh.
This book is hilarious! Some of the snippets have a bit too much legal jargon, and it is a little easy to get confused if you are not familiar with normal court proceedings, but for the most part it is easy to understand. I've been meaning to buy this book for a year after seeing excerpts and I'm so glad I did!
I think this is both funny and unique. It has some funny stories and some that make you think 'did they really do that?' and some were really odd.
I had been aware of this book for some time and finally decided to purchase it because of my interest in criminal justice. It is very interesting and kept me going back to the reading. Most of it kept me interested though there were some incidents, not really humerous, that I found myself saying, "Did this actually happen in a courtroom??". Many incidents would make one laugh out loud. It's well worth reading if you're into courtroom drama. I would definitely recommend it.
