I found some cute canines on the front of several books, and I got them thinking I would find some cute, "feel good" stories. Not so much.As with the last book I read (actually short story), this book was too simplistic. Again, I understand it is for children, but I also agree with the reviewer who thought it would have to be read to younger children, and it is too simple for someone old enough to read it for himself.While the story has a happy ending it just wasn't worth the journey to get there. Yes, I am glad things worked out well for Bailey, but it was too far fetched. Everything had to fall in place just right for the Great Escape to actually have worked. Not very realistic.And, yes, I know this is fiction, but it still has to be believable to work. It wasn't (believable), and it didn't (work). Still, if you want to read it, it DOES have a happy ending, and you will want to see things work out for Bailey and his family. Good news is that it won't take very long to read.
Well, I bought this because I needed a dog story for my third grader.Pros:---I felt this story was good.---Realistic at certain points, but then complete fantasy such as the helpful female shelter owner and the young man who wants to adopt Bailey end up getting married. I haven't laughed that hard in a while. Plus of course, Bailey's brain and his thoughts are human-like.---This would be a good read for a kid if you read it to them and stretched it out a few days OR if they were in fifth grade and you assigned it for a specific reason pertaining to story elements.---Price is great.Cons:---No pictures, only text at about a fourth or fifth grade reading level, which I wasn't expecting because it is only eleven pages. But it is like reading 10 pages of someone's story that they typed up. At least it seemed like that on the Kindle on my PC as I read it to my son. Therefore, my son did not read it, so I had to read it quite swiftly so it didn't seem to go on forever because it was for a specific assignment for that day. If I let him read it, it would have taken him a week--and that is with him being a very good reader. I think I was expecting about 25 words or less on a page.---I think someone who read this story cried. I don't think it was that deep.---But it definitely would have been at least four stars if it had some illustrations. Five stars if the text was broken up.---The cover photo suggests that this is a book for younger, elementary children who could possibly enjoy it. Unfortunately, not without the help of an adult.
This was a really nice short story. perfect for reading to kids in 2-3 grades and to read by themselves depending on the child, by 3rd grade.A STORY about a poor little puppy born in a puppy mill who was near to starved by time he decided to try and rescue his family by escaping and finding someone to help. He had some real hardships along the way, had lots of scary things happen to him and went for days without food. Just when he didn't think he could walk another step, and collapsed by the side of a road, a young man finds him.Without telling you the whole story all I can say is that I'm glad Bailey's story had a happy ending. I wish I could be like Bailey and save every animal born in a mill, are being neglected or abused. This story ends with the moral; If you don't ever give up, even when things get bad, you can help make a change in your little world.
I completely love it and me nor mom r dad like dogz but my lil sis does and when her friends told her about the book she asked me for it so I said yes and she read ' bout 5 min. til she asked me to read aloud to her so I said sure and once I finished reading it to her I asked my mom if we could a puppy and she said no so I showed her the book and she didn't know that every single day dogz r dying b/c of puppy mills so she brought us to look at dogz at petsmart and she saw a black Labrador retriever puppy and a collie and an Australian shepherd and felt so bad for them she brought all 3 of them one for her 1 for my sis and 1 for me. So mucho gracias for whoever made this book
I chose to give this book five stars for such a wonderful and sweet dog rescue story of now a puppy decided to get out of the puppy mill that he had been born in among his family and dog friends too! It has a very sweet and good ending! I recommend this puppy lovers ! As I théine anyone Who truly enjoys reading dog or any animal who finds itself in the situation that this pup found itself born into with a very mean owner of this puppy mill would want to buy and read it too! I liked it because it was well written and I found it hard to set down the book and do this review until I had finished reading it,see? And I love sweet animals like Bailey and Bart,etc. Great job Bapps! By Angela
First let me point out that this is a short story, not a novel. That isn't part of the description. It's an OK story. The main problem with it is that the author wraps up too quickly. It almost seemed that the author got tired of writing and hurried to finish. I usually read this type of fiction at bedtime, and I'm looking for 20 - 30 minutes of relaxing reading. This one was too short.
This was a good little story from the puppy's perspective - and just reiterates that puppy mills are truly awful and have got to be shut down! The poor little dogs born into these mills have a bleak future. The puppies only want to be loved, cared for and to have a forever home! This story tells us what it could look like from the puppy point of view! Please, please, please - if anyone knows of a puppy mill, turn them in and get them shut down so Bailey can rest easy and know his efforts worked!
Great beginnings and neat story but ended waaay to abruptly! Beginning had detail and descriptive scenes then BOOM in 2-3 pages the story and all the loose ends are concluded abruptly! Disappointing
