This was an interesting read written by someone who has conducted ghost tours in Savannah for years and his experiences doing so. He also relates stories told him about some of the haunts, by people who took a tour or have otherwise had ghostly experiences with a given location. I've never been to Savannah and knew only a little about the city's history of haunting, voodoo and other supernatural occurrences, but this book makes you a feel as if you are there and experiencing it firsthand. It's a bit creepy, and I'm not sure I'd want to partake in one of these tours in person, but it was fun reading about them. Of course it all depends on whether you believe in any of this, but I've always been of the mind that there has to be some truth to it where there are so many sightings and experiences by lots of people. An interesting book, especially for anyone who is thinking of visiting Savannah and going on one of the ghost tours.
I got this book because I was going on the haunted ghost tour in Savannah that showed some of the areas from this book. If you are going to Savannah that may be sort of an excuse to read it but even for me, who went, it was a waste. If you aren't going there then there is no reason to waste your time with it. It was slow and poorly written. Really boring. Yes, it was nice to give you the Savannah feel, but if that is what you are after read one of the other, more famous books from the area. If you are after something scary this isn't it either. This is a very generous 2 stars.
McGriff's Savannah Shadows is a personal account of one man's journey through the paranormal activities of Savannah and her surrounding Low Country. His stories opened my eyes to another world that lurks parallel to the one we know. The world of the Hag. The world of ghosts. And the paranormal. The book was insightful and a great source of haunted stories that permeate Savannah. I recommend this book if you're into the macabre as I am.
Having visited Savannah several times, I was able to relate with the places and stories contained in the book. It's an enjoyable read and I'm looking forward to going back to the city. Blue Orb Tours will be the next tour on my list!
I LOVED this so much. I have been to Savannah and gone on several of the walking tours. I believe that Savannah Shadows is a really quality introduction into the world of the "unexplainable" that seems to just permeate Savannah. I can't wait to get back to Savannah and actually get to go on one of Travis's tours! It will be one of the first things I get to the next time I go back!
I really enjoyed the stories in this book. I would have given five stars if it had been better formatted for kindle. There were some nice pictures, but I was only able to figure out what a few of them were because of the layout (I'm assuming this is only a kindle problem). It definitely made me want to avoid hags at all costs!
This was the first book I have read by Tobias McGriff. Savannah is a place with a lot of history and hauntings. I really enjoy reading about true hauntings in and around Savannah. I think you would like reading this book.
I enjoy reading anything about Savannah. Even the stories with a paranormal slant . Easy to read . I recommend it.
