I treated myself to a new kindle (fire) and knew I needed to learn more about the Fire than the basic amazon users guide allows you to. I bought this guide for my kindle Fire and read it on my kindle-for-pc while trying the tips out on my Fire. That worked very well as my pc screen is big and scrolling through the book that way is easy. I did learn many things but I do believe that I need to go back to the guide often to really know the tips and not forget them.I liked the many, many links, internal (to other chapters, etc.) and external (to books, websites, etc.). I was totally amazed that Steve and his team had managed to compile this book within 2 weeks after the kindle Fire was released. And they did a very good job of it. What is neat is that this guide also covers all the other Kindles and as I also own a 2nd generation Kindle that is just making this guide that more useful to me.I 'bought' this guide when it was free, which I considered a windfall for me as consumer, although the regular price of $2.99 is very reasonable, even downright cheap too, and I would most certainly have bought this book for a price of $5-8 too.A low price or a free offer of the book is by no means a reflection on the quality of the book. A free book is not equal to a 'badly written book'. Not at all.Personally I view the low prices of Indie writers as comparable to the low price of printed books in India. The books are cheap there because of the lower costs of producing them. Hemingway, Pearl Buck, or Naipal (all sold at about every corner in any city in India) is still world literature regardless of the price of the pocket.All in all I am one happy customer with this book's contend and its great price.

I'm a librarian in a relatively poor school district and I bought a Kindle so the kidscould have more exposure to technology. With a limited budget, I need all the help Ican get. This book has been so helpful! It goes way beyond the basics with lots of goodinfo on how to get free books and other reading material. And there's info on useful appsto enhance the Kindle. And every section of the book describes how to do things on eachof the various Kindle models. It definitely is helping me maximize the use of my Kindle.
After purchasing the older edition, I was just in time to grab the 2012 version for 99 cents on Christmas Day. This is perfect for newbies like myself who just bought their first kindles. I own the kindle fire and was thinking of purchasing the kindle touch to carry to work, because it is lighter in weight, and I might be able to carry it in the side pocket of my scrub pants. This book was great in explaining the differences among the various kindles and what they can and can not do. Still on the fence about purchasing the kindle touch, but thanks to this book, I will not be going into it blind. Oh and don't forget the web links to various sites for free book lists. Great book!
WOW in just 15 minutes of reading I downloaded an app for my kindle which enlarge my use of it 10 fold, not to mention apps like Calibre etc etc JUST BUY IT, youll be happy the minute you start to read it, you will say to yourself, "why diddn't this information come with my Kindle",
I found it informative.
The teaser implied updated help for very specific models, for ex Kindle DX 2.5.8, which i own. But reading the book forces me to read the whole thing to understand the references to the DX model, and then the different submodels (graphite is different from free 3g models) are not separated. All information in the book is commonly available on many websites.I would return it if possible
I still have to call the help line but at least this book answers most of myquestions. For an 82 year old to take on new technology is pretty scathe but it'sFun and the book is easy to understand.
